The Corps of Discovery's incredible story, told through Lewis, Clark, York, Sacagawea and other coprs members' own words and actions. Students can survey a small museum of animal skins, bones, beads, tin ware and more, as they discover how Thomas Jefferson and the Louisiana Purchase shaped our history.

Program Objectives

  1. Discover the importance of river travel. Compare and contrast modes of travel in the 1700's along the Ohio River and rivers West.
  2. Understand uses of music along the river. Compare needs with types of music created.
  3. Participate in a keelboatman game.
  4. Compare the importance and accuracy of oral versus written history. Students are encouraged to collect family stories.
  5. Encourage more research.
